3.History In 1969, Karel Prager, a Czech artist, designed a 30 meters high pylon with a bronze statue in honour of Jan Palach, a student who set himself in fire to protest against the repression of Prague Spring. The statue was removed by the regime, and the pylone was left without indication. The intention of the artist was rediscovered recently and the statue has been put back at this place on November 17th 2020.Palach pylon with 'The Flame' sculpture. (photo: Raymond Johnston)

4.Environment The annual report of Czech Hydro-Meteorological Institute states that the average quality of air in Czech Republic has been the highest since 2008 in 2019. This can be explained by the warmer winter which reduced the use of heating and by the rainy and windy weather. However, experts highlight the regional differences and show that air pollution is still a problem in public health.https://english.radio.cz/czechs-breathe-cleanest-air-years-suggest-a-report-8700603
